I love Independence Day! It's my favorite! We used to always hit up the breakfast at my Grandma Woodward's ward. They have the best breakfast, complete with sushi, and it's great to visit with extended family.
Flashback Six years....
...and one year Patrick Henry was even there....
Then we'd go see the fireworks at Highland High School.
Now we go to the cabin. Hot Tub. Make Fancy Drinks. And go to Heber for Fireworks. These are the drinks this year. I was pretty proud of them, not like they were delicious (think cotton candy and cranberry juice) but they were festive!
I've been babying my roses, and it is totally paying off! My one rose that I thought was headed to the happy hunting ground just needed a little TLC and it looking so good! I took it out of the ground, put it in a pot...and then it lost all it's buds and looked totally dead. But THEN it came back!
And my bareroot baby that I ordered this spring "Gentle Hermoine" is growing and has had a bunch of sweet blossoms. The reviews online say it stinks, well, I think it's just a perfect "musk." It matches my old lady style. #oldladysmell
All this year we've had live/fresh flowers on our table, and I've loved it! These is the branches I pruned off my photinia like six weeks ago! It still looks the same, except it's growing roots, which are cool.
Summer is a time for work. A little work. I finally bucked up and sanded and finished the two Adirondack chairs David made back in March.
And I LOVE them! Especially now they are done!
David constructed the most beautiful table for our backyard. We are such a team, he builds, I finish.
We never have a pattern. We just wing-it (take that, pinterest) But it turned out absolutely perfect!
And just last week we finished another bench. We had to buy the 2x4's since we ran out of the pallet ones. Pallets are so cheap (aka free) compared to buying wood. But it did take a LOT less sanding to make them smooth-ish :)
Our garden is thriving. Just ask the weeds. We pulled out the first crop of peas and made way for the next. We got a GIANT bundle of 1x2's in the cull lumber at Lowe's for a smoking deal. We are making trellis things with them. They aren't straight, but that makes them whimsical. They do the job and they are original.
We've gotten a few tomatoes thus far. We tried some "Hog Hearts" from my friend Michelle, I love them! I'm not into all the seedy guts, or leftover tomatoes, so these are great! Firm, and just the right size for one salad/wrap/etc.
We've gone to visit Grandma Great. Please notice the sweater, it was at least 90 in her house this day. Haha, I don't put on a sweater unless it's -12
The boys love eating candy corns and playing with the blocks.
